Convert Off Road Dirt Bike Title to Street Legal Regular Title Convert Off Road Dirt Bike Title to Street Legal Regular Title
This section explains how to convert an off-road dirt bike to a street-legal regular title. This process applies only to dirt bikes; Colorado does not title OHVs, UTVs, ATVs, or golf carts for on-road use.
To pass inspection, your dirt bike must have the following:
At least one mirror
DOT-approved tires with sufficient tread
Horn hardwired to the bike’s electrical system (battery-powered horns are not allowed)
Headlight
Tail light
Signal lights are optional. If your bike does not have them, be prepared to demonstrate hand signals.
Conversion kits are available online and often include the required components listed above. You can also check with an off-road vehicle dealer if you have questions.
When transporting your bike on a trailer or in the back of a truck:
Ensure the bike can be started
Make sure the VIN number (located on the forks) is visible without the inspector needing to climb into the truck or onto the trailer
The inspector will have all required forms, so there is no need to print anything ahead of time.
